Senior Year

Project Management (MGMT 410- Project Management)

Capstone Simulation (MGMT 471 W-  Strategic Planning)

During the course of our business capstone class, we were instructed to compete in groups within the class while running the Capsim simulation online (http://capsim.com). This simulation mimics a real world manufacturing firm. Our firm created senors that were distributed to various customers. During the simulation I held the role of CFO and also the VP of Technology. We only had groups of four, so more than one member had to step up to take on more than one role. I chose to step up to the role of CFO since I was the only member of our group who had finance experience. I was also assigned the role of VP of Technology since I was the only member who was majoring in management information systems. Along with myself, we had two other group members receiving degrees in supply chain management and one marketing major. Our marketing major obtained the roles of VP of Marketing and also Human Resources. One SCM major was our CEO and the other was the VP of Operations. Holding the role of CFO I was in charge of preparing the financial statements, which were generated manually by Capsim. They helped to determine what type of funding we should use for our firm in the first few rounds, should we borrow long- or short-term loans, or should be be issuing stock. As the CFO and also the VP of Technology, I built a forecasting modeling, using excel, to determine how many sensors to manufacture based off of what we were selling, what percentage of market share we had and how much share of the market that type of sensor had as well.

Report Improvement (MIS 445- Business Intelligence)

I worked with a girl in class who is currently working for Howard Industries, in Erie, PA. We analyzed some of the reports that they currently run for various departments in their company. We mainly focused on the production reports and marketing reports for the company because this was main problem area. After analyzing the data within the reports, we determined ways to improve the reports so that management could more easily view them. We also took into consideration how often these reports are ran and if they should be daily, monthly, or annual reports for management. We also asked ourselves why are these reports being generated and what is their main purpose. Doing those two things were especially helpful when it came to suggesting new report information. We were able to understand the data within them better and also determine whether or not the correct data was being displayed and so on.

Junior Year

Start-up Manufacturing Company (FIN 450- Corporate Finance)

During this project, I worked in group of 12 students that ranged from business students to mechanical and plastic engineers.  We teamed up together to create a single product manufacturing firm. Our firm created a product that was a cross between a pair of skis and a snowboard. Since I was taking a finance course, my group members and I were in charge of creating proforma statements for our new company. We had to analyze similar firms to predict financial statements and numbers for our firm.
